Love the Earth

There is nothing quite like adding the finishing touches that turn your WiP into a RtW (Ready to Wear!) stunner. Knitting a garment takes hours of hard, albeit enjoyable, work; fast fashion simply doesn't feature in our lovingly handmade wardrobe.
There are so many upsides to knitting our own garments, not least the fact that our creations can literally last a lifetime. I've got handknits in my wardrobe that my nana made for my mum more than 50 years ago – I wear them now and they're still going strong. It's not just Nana's hard work, either; from an eco point of view, they are certainly doing their bit for overstuffed landfill sites.
This issue, many of our keep-forever knits have been crafted in gorgeous sustainable and natural fibres for the ultimate feel-good factor. On page 20, our oversize cable jumper has been made in a gorgeous recycled yarn, while over on page 37, the twisted rib and bubble stitch sweater is knitted in a beautiful pure wool. We've got soft accessories, too, plus a delightful kid's turtle motif jumper made in an organic cotton (page 47). And, of course, we wouldn't want our environmentalist hero to be knitted in anything other than 100% British wool – you can find our homage to Sir David Attenborough on page 43.
As always, we've got plenty to read for those times when the needles are at rest. On page 52 Rosie fills us in on the latest news from her yarn shop, we delve into the different yarns for sustainable knitwear on page 57, and Associate Editor, Gemma, has been busy rounding up some lovely makes for Mum this Mother's Day (Page 42). We hope you enjoy the patterns in this issue, and we'll see you next month.
